Artist Statement
I still remember the first oil painting I ever made…but more importantly, I remember the process of oil painting. I recall in that first experience how much I loved the physicality of paint. Today, I continue to explore paint in a much similar fashion.  Color and environment are key elements that I continue to investigate as well. I look to the natural world and the urban world to create color combinations that not only work, but also challenge the composition. Travel is another key element that continues to inform my work more than I even realize. The contrast in natural places and urban cities plays out in my work through the color combinations that I choose and the mark making gestures on canvas. My response to my environment continually flips as I communicate my conflict in finding a surreal balance between urban and natural places.
