Born and educated in the state of Michigan, Karen attended Michigan State University and graduated with honors from the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.

Karen is well versed in many mediums. In addition to major paintings in acrylics and watercolors, she also paints with dye on silk, using the gutta resist technique. She creates fine drawings in both pencil and pastel as well as large glass panels of leaded, etched and fused glass. Two of these panels may be publicly viewed at the Waimea Center on the Big Island.

Vibrant color and flowing lines characterize the art works of Karen Thrasher. Her images are simple and yet bold. The intense beauty is both captivating and haunting. She hopes to create a sense of “joie de vivre” through her works.

Karen’s work may be viewed at many fine galleries throughout Hawaii, including the Nohea Galleries on Oahu, Maui Hands, Artist’s Gallery of Kauai, The Harbor Gallery on the Big Island, Dreams of Paradise, The Rift Zone Gallery and the Live Arts Gallery at Hawaii‘s Oldest Mac Nut Factory.
