From the very first moment I dipped my pipe into the furnace to gather molten glass and drew it, glowing fiery orange, into the world, I knew that this would be my medium. I had fallen in love. And still, each time I cup the glass in my hand to shape it, I fall again. Every day in the studio, gathering up molten glass, pressing it into shape, and putting my breath into it, I remember my first teacher telling me to let the energy from the hand cupping the glass run up my arm, through my heart and back into the pipe through my other arm; to create a circle of connection between my heart and the glass. And so it is, each piece that leaves the studio comes from my heart, and I hope it will touch yours.

Raised in Golden, Colorado, I grew up astride my horse, exploring the mountains near my home, and did not imagine that someday I would leave that arid country for the lush greens and blues of Hawai’i. The daughter of a scientist, I never dreamed that I would color so far outside the lines and make my living as an artist. But, here I am, in Pele’s home on the Big Island of Hawai’i, and as my mother says, how can Pele not love a girl who plays with fire?

See my work at the Hilton Waikoloa and at Harbor Gallery II in Kawaihae.
